Climate Change Solutions: Our New Energy Economy William M. Brown Global warming and climate change are now perhaps the most important problems facing humanity. Global warming is real. And climate change is coming at us faster than we expected. So it is not only an issue for our children and grandchildren, but a focus for all of us in our own very near future. The global warming story is one of planetary emergency, crisis and opportunity, truth versus fiction, and our moral responsibility to all those living now and to the future of all humanity. And as many know from seeing the documentary movie and reading Al Gore’s book both entitled “An Inconvenient Truth” as well as other similar accounts global warming is one of the great, compelling and moving stories of our time. Al Gore describes the climate crisis we are now experiencing as both a “danger” and an “opportunity”. The danger lies in the destructive powers of nature that have been pushed out of balance by human activity in the last 150 years. The opportunity lies in how we actively engage in the creation of a post-carbon producing, post-fossil-fuel based economy and way of life. As the primary producer of carbon dioxide worldwide the USA has a unique opportunity to make a significant contribution to bringing our planet’s atmosphere back into balance. Our response to global warming may be the most significant action we can take as individuals and as national and global communities in this century; it is our chance to offer a bright and positive future for all. William M. (Bill) Brown was one of 1000 people worldwide selected by Al Gore and The Climate Project to learn and present the global warming story in 2007. Bill attended intensive training in Nashville, Tennessee in early January 2007 with Al Gore and his expert team. His training focused on the history, content, architecture, and style of the story; presentation and communication skills; and a suite of solutions including individual, community, corporate, governmental, and international actions. Bill now offers The Climate Project presentation on solutions to the climate crisis free of charge to all communities throughout the American Southwest. He presents the most current version of the show as it is continuously updated with new information. He focuses on local and regional issues, seeks ideas for solutions from his audiences, and trains individuals and organizations alike in understanding and solving the climate crisis. nmglobalwarming.org
